DEPTH BEYOND ONES - Soledad In The Gale
Depth Beyond One's strikes surprisingly right to the kneecap. I
wouldn't have believed at first that Finland has to offer this
skillfully composed progressive metal. DBO's five song demo represents
a band which trusts on the colours of psychedelia and the meaning of
skillful playing in their music. The outcome is no musical masturbation
but fine and skillful performance, a mix from heavy rock and jazz to
even funk at times.
Soledad In The Gale combines parts, for example from Symphony X,
Jimi Hendrix, Opeth and Primus, to a solid whole. Nevertheless, the
band manages to sound original and individual and does not fall
in plagiarism.
Occasionally, progressive music has a habit to get lost on its way,
but Depth Beyond One's has managed to avoid this, although the wrong
paths are almost stepped in. As a whole, I must mention that Soledad In
The Gale is a great demonstration of Finnish skill. I just hope that
the band would get more name and fame around.
